Getting Started
Why I Started SVGolfCo
I grew up playing golf with my dad — like a lot of us probably did. The game has been something I’ve dipped in and out of throughout my life. I started it back in high school while at Buffalo Gap, where I played on the high school team for a couple of seasons. Looking back, I had a decent swing for how little I actually played — mostly just during the fall, since I focused on other sports the rest of the year. I did alright, but I never took it seriously enough to get really good.
After high school, I went on to Virginia Military Institute and during these years, I put the clubs down. Outside of the occasional round or two each year, I didn’t pick them back up again for nearly a decade. I played just enough to remember how much I loved being on the course — and just enough to realize how quickly the skill fades. One round might feel surprisingly solid, followed by several humbling ones that remind you how tough the game really is.

Recently, though, I’ve rediscovered my love for golf. It started casually — a few rounds and range sessions with buddies after work — and it grew from there. Eventually, I made the investment at Mulligans for my first set of fitted clubs. And once you’ve dropped money on new gear, well... you better use it, right?
YouTube Golf further fueled my renewed passion. I found myself watching guys like Bryson DeChambeau and Grant Horvat, who make the game just as entertaining to watch as it is to play. That mix of fun and obsession resonated with why we all love this game to begin with.
Over the last year, I’ve made it a point to play as many local courses as possible. And the more I played, the more I realized how many amazing courses we have here, but no easy way to find them all. There’s no one-stop shop for golf info in the Shenandoah Valley — no central place for tee time availability, tournament schedules, or even basic course conditions. Half the time I’d call a course to play just to find out there was a tournament I didn’t know about. Then it was back to the not so easy search for another one.
That’s where the idea for SVGolfCo came from - I wanted to create a simple, central platform where local players can find info, share stories, and support the game we love. It’s about making golf more accessible, more connected, and more community-driven right here in the Valley.
I’m proud of where I grew up, and I’m grateful for the time I spent as part of a team. My hope is that this platform can help others experience that same connection — whether you're picking up the game for the first time or falling back in love with it like I did.
Thanks for being here. Let’s build something great together.
